How To Make Your Underwear Last Longer
‘Repair and mending doesn’t mean we can’t afford to buy something new, it means we can’t afford something being thrown away. What used to be a badge of shame is now something to be proud of’ – Fashion Revolution.
Here’s some advice on extending the life of your clothes more generally:
💚Removing stains:
- Tea and coffee: soak the garment in 1/3 cup white vinegar and 2/3 water, to lift the stain before washing.
- Make-up: shaving cream works wonders! Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
- Food: soak the whole garment in warm soapy water before washing.
- Wine: add salt to the stain as soon as possible and scrub it in with a toothbrush. Leave for 20 minutes, shaking off and adding fresh salt halfway through. Then add some clear liquid soap, rinse under a cold tap, and then wash as normal.
💚Always do up any zips on your clothes and turn them inside-out before washing.
💚Check the label! Different fabrics require different washing techniques and temperatures.
💚Wash clothes made from synthetic fibres in a guppy friend washing bag to prevent the shedding of microfibres!
